Hayward Gallery. London.

I love the brutal complicated nature of this building. It gives the impression of a sleeping concrete monster, a heavy and languid herbivorous beast that might rise up and with a great lumbering effort plod gently away towards Battersea Park where it would munch contentedly on the trees and bushes before slumping down once more to doze.
It's a building that lends itself wonderfully to being roughly sketched (which is good because it was quite chilly on Monday!) and I wanted a simple bold image. I used a flat grey on the building to stop the image becoming too complex and then just a few other colours on the objects around the edge to add contrast and frame the building.
